Rush Limbaugh is a radio talk show broadcaster. He developed the radio talk show broadcaster’s disorder: a bloated and distorted sense of self so profound that he has lost the ability to accept the idea of being wrong in anything that he does. He has developed a need to stay relevant that has reached histrionic and desperate levels.
Some of the words from his own mouth will be used to illustrate his growing pack of problems that extended into illegal drug abuse without having to do a prison sentence and a series of vitriolic personal attack so foul that some of us want him off of our airways for good.
The problem with talk radio
The process of being a radio talk show host is one where words must fill the air. Any words will do because the greatest failure is to allow even a second of “dead air”. Some hosts are so desperate that they will make juvenile or bizarre noises, repeat worn out catch phrases or do anything to fill the airwaves with noise.
The process is one of complete control over the conversation, of hiding from the public view, and of great and easily earned income.
The problem with talk radio is that the hosts run out of things to say during their first week on the job. The rest degrades into a series of desperate grabs for attention, each one more offensive than the last one.
Radio talk show hosts can be stupid to the point of near mental retardation. They do not need much by way of formal education and they only accept the facts that support their point of view. They lose their ability to think critically, to think of other perspectives and people, and to deal with the consequences of their actions.
Such individuals can easily dodge responsibility for their behavior because they control the discourse. Unless they go too far, radio talk show hosts rarely are sanctioned or taken off the air. Whites can go miles down the wrong road while other ethnicities cannot slip far at all.
They suck the last drop of public respect for freedom of speech. They distort the conversation to the point where people sound like small children, tempermental and ignorant of the world. They go beyond testing the boundaries of outrageous speech. As they age, they exhaust their limited talent and expertise, and begin to use facts that anyone can get from the web. Their personalities and mentalities decline.
They must resort to more and more outrageous speech in order to stay relevant. They become shills for the right wing and they clearly are given orders to start trouble on a schedule and agenda that is hidden from the rest of us.
Propped up by the corporations and by their bloated and undeserved paychecks, some radio personalities become so powerful that they cannot be gotten rid of, no matter how they offend the public trust or violate the rules.
For example, the greatest hypocrisy comes when a White radio talk show host whines about Black sports star’s salary. No one seemss to notice that the radio personality refuses to release information about how they have become rich enough to buy the sports team.
More important, the sports stars obviously have to work hard and to accomplish much more than the radio personalities, at least one of whom could not even finish a semester of college.
The problem is with Rush Limbaugh
The Intellectual Problem with Rush Limbaugh is that he appeals to a large demographic who are more stupid and/or less mentally sound than he appears to be. His audience cannot possibly understand how stupid and unstable acting he is because they can only think or behave at an even lower maximum level.
Limbaugh launches into bizarre diatribes with an increasingly shrill mouth. It is clear that, when he launches into his topics, he is being of use to someone in the unelected political bathysphere, but he is clearly of the most use to himself. To illustrate his slide into the depths of verbal depravity and intellectual irrationality, here are some of his more pathetic attempts to keep himself relevant.
“Being stuck is a position few of us like. We want something new but cannot let go of the old – old ideas, beliefs, habits, even thoughts. We are out of contact with our own genius. Sometimes we know we are stuck; sometimes we don’t. In both cases we have to DO something.”
When Limbaugh was exposed as a drug addict he mentally separated himself from his fellow criminals after dodging prosecution. Here are some of his less thoughtful utterances.
“If you commit a crime, you’re guilty.”
“There’s a simple way to solve the crime problem: obey the law; punish those who do not.”
“Too many whites are getting away with drug use…Too many whites are getting away with drug sales…The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them, and send them up the river, too.”
“I’ve been racking my brain. I’ve been trying to figure out how Bob Dole’s luggage got on my airplane…I told the doctor, I said, ‘Look, I’m worried about the next election.’ … A misunderstanding.” –Rush Limbaugh, after he was detained by custom officials for possessing Viagra with a prescription made out in someone else’s name
“The ocean will take care of this on its own if it was left alone and left out there. It’s natural. It’s as natural as the ocean water is.” –Rush Limbaugh, on the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, May 3, 2010
“Exercise freaks … are the ones putting stress on the health care system.” June 12, 2009
“He is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He’s moving all around and shaking and it’s purely an act. … This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn’t take his medication or he’s acting.” –Rush Limbaugh, on an ad by Michael J. Fox endorsing Claire McCaskill for Senate for supporting embryonic stem cell research (You do have to Watch video in order to get the full effect of Limbaugh’s disturbed behavior)
The Social Problem With Rush Limbaugh And Women:
”Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society. ”
“What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex — what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex.” -Rush Limbaugh, referring to Sandra Fluke, a student at Georgetown Law School who was denied the right to speak at a congressional hearing on contraception hearing, in which she planned to discuss a friend of hers who needed contraception to prevent the growth of cysts, February 29, 2012″
The problem with Rush Limbaugh and a fed up public
Limbaugh and other extremist radio hosts provide a service to the extreme and secretive organizations. Radio can reach vastly more people and to far more places than television and the internet. A person who is incapable of using the internet or paying for fuller news options on cable television can easily get radio.
When Limbaugh starts up, the “mainstream media” allows “Limbaugh trouble” to dominate the news. We miss things that we should be aware of, like attempts to take away our freedom of the web; unlimited detention without legal counsel or due process; and the increasing militarization of our police (combined with the declining level of staffing, discipline, self control, good mental health, and good order in our police forces).
In other words, he is the useful nuisance; the easy distraction; the great and showy offender. When he is used strategically, he can draw an entire nation’s attention away from vastly more important matters.
After his attack on Susan Fluke and others, there are enough Americans who believe that he has gone too far and simply want Rush Limbaugh out of their news. Those who know about Armed Forces Network (AFN) radio are incensed that he has government sanctions and taxpayer support for his content. AFN and AFTV serve military and other Americans who are stationed overseas. In some cases, it is their only access to English language broadcast content. Truly savvy military veterans are perfectly aware that some unstable Limbaugh fans will soon be joining us at home.
There is no doubt that AFN would let a left winger last for 5 minutes after behaving as Limbaugh has behaved for years. So here comes the same old dialogue about racism, extreme favoritism toward extreme right wing mentalities, and sexism in the military services and culture.
The Fed Up Public
There is a line between freedom of speech and offensive speech. There is a line that is not to be crossed by defaming, slandering, and violating other civil codes and laws. We cannot yell “Fire” in a theater, threaten to do a terrorist act, and threaten a person’s life. We also cannot expect people to buy our services and goods when we finance speech that repeatedly insults or violates their norms and values.
The public outrage against Limbaugh has been sufficient to force the corporations to do something about him and his ilk, and here are some of the advertisers who have put a crimp in radio’s wallet.
AccuQuote Life Insurance, Allstate Insurance, AOL, Bare Escentuals, Bethesda Sedation Dentistry, Bonobos, Capital One, Carbonite, Cascades Dental, Citrix, Consolidated Credit Counseling Services, Constant Contact, Cunningham Security, Girl Scouts, Goodwill Industries, Hadeed Carpet, JCPenney, Legal Zoom, Matrix Direct, Netflix, Philadelphia Orchestra, PolyCom, ProFlowers, Quicken Loans, Reputation Rhino, RSVP Discount Beverage, Sears, Sensa, Service Magic, Sleep Train, Sleep Number, St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Tax Resolution, Thompson Creek Windows and Vitacost. A headline going around is that 98 other advertisers sent some statements to Premiere Radio, which released a list. Where is that list? It could not be found. If someone has it, put the list and a source link in the comments!
This much came from Radio Info.
“From today’s TRI Newsletter: Premiere Networks is circulating a list of 98 advertisers who want to avoid “environments likely to stir negative sentiments.” The list includes carmakers (Ford, GM, Toyota), insurance companies (Allstate, Geico, Prudential, State Farm) and restaurants (McDonald’s, Subway). As you’ll see in the note below, those “environments” go beyond the Rush Limbaugh show – ”
The End Game: Who will win?
The truth does not require a majority to prevail, ladies and gentlemen. The truth is its own power. The truth will out. Never forget that.
Well maybe the pink, fat guy who hides behind walls of security, speaks safely from a cramped space, and is an unprosecuted criminal will find out that the truth has enough power to run him out of our public conscience and confine him to the spiritually and mentally diseased corners of America where he belongs.
Limbaugh and his ilk have a right to say what they please, within the rule of law. We have a right not to be forced to listen to them. We can turn a radio dial, but we cannot turn all of our television news or the internet off.
Do not let up. Do not believe that the advertisers have dropped Limbaugh until they actually drop this guy; and do not let the Limbaughs of this world slink back to the point where we are kept from getting more important news about what is going on in our world.
We must win the end game in order to be properly informed so that we can adapt and survive.
