Happy Sunday: About Treasure

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

—Matthew 13:44

Yesterday, I went gold panning in the hopes of finding some flakes and nuggets! Actually, it was all an excuse to to into the mountains and play around in a river, most of which are fantastic this time of year in California.

The day went beautifully, and I came home with some beautiful rocks, none of which were of gold! My real treasure was in a having beautiful day and some fun with good people. That will lift my spirits for a time.

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Matthew 6:19-24

And I wish today that the Tea Party, The Koch Brothers, the President, the corrupted Supreme Court, the corporations, the secretive groups of billionaires, the paid off media, the Republicans and all of the greedy fools who will say or do anything to enrich themselves would put 20 dollars in their wallets, leave the credit cards and goons behind, go out into our country, shut their mouths, and see what it is that they are destroying just so that they can spend a few years living in luxury and power.
